Duties and Responsibilities
This position is with the United Nations Global Geodetic Centre of Excellence (UN-GGCE), located at the UN Campus in Bonn, Germany. The interns report to the Head of Office. The Centre’s overarching goal is to strengthen global geodesy by enhancing coordination, collaboration, and capacity development, with a specific focus on improving geospatial data and contributing to the Global Geodetic Reference Frame (GGRF). The UN-GGCE works closely with Member States and geodetic organizations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing technical support, capacity-building, and promoting geodesy as a key component of national and international development. The internship is for three months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, depending on the needs of the Centre. The internship is unpaid. Interns may work on a part-time or full-time basis, with a schedule ranging from three to five days per week (up to 35 hours). The internship is designed to be in person at the Bonn duty station; however, remote work is possible. Depending on the candidate’s situation, the internship may also offer a Flexible Work Arrangement, allowing for fully remote, hybrid (in-person and remote), part-time, and/or temporary FWA. The Interns will be responsible for the following duties in general for specific projects: Supports and contributes to the implementation of projects and activities aligned with the Centre's Framework Plan, focusing on strengthening global geodesy through improved coordination and collaboration among Member States and geodetic organizations, with an emphasis on capacity development.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet on of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent); (c) knowledge of GIS, RS, GNSS and Integration is desirable. (d) Relevant field in geospatial sciences, geography, environmental sciences, or a related field
Languages
English is the working language of UN-GGCE. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship; knowledge of other UN official language is an advantage.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
