Public Works is seeking qualified candidates to fill an emergency Geographic Information Systems Analyst vacancy related to the homelessness crisis.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
Before the end of your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.
Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Geographic Information Systems Analyst.
A Geographic Information Systems Analyst for this vacancy is responsible for a combination of the following job functions:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Option 1 -
A bachelor's degree from an accredited* college or university with a major in geographic information systems, GIScience, geography or a closely related field that required equivalent coursework in geographic information systems - AND - either satisfactory completion of a GIS internship or at least six (6) months of experience in the uses and operations of geographic information systems.
Option 2 -
An associate's degree from an accredited* college or university in geographic information systems, GIScience, geography or a field requiring at least 18 semester units of equivalent coursework in geographic information systems - AND - three (3) years of experience performing technical duties in support of geographic information systems using standard GIS tools to populate and manipulate GIS databases and generate GIS products.
Successful completion of a County recognized GIS certificate* program requiring at least 18 semester units of coursework may be substituted for the required education.
Option 3 -
Two (2) years of experience using standard GIS tools and utilities to enter and correct data in GIS databases and provide other technical support for GIS systems and generate GIS products at the level of County of Los Angeles GIS Technician II**.
Option 4 -
A Master's degree or higher from an accredited* college or university in geographic information systems, GIScience, geography or a closely related field that required equivalent coursework in geographic information systems.

** Experience at the level of Los Angeles County’s class of Geographic Information Systems Technician II is defined as: Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine to moderately difficult technical duties in maintaining and supporting County and departmental geographic information systems (GIS) and GIS databases; uses standard GIS tools and generates standard GIS products; performs quality control reviews of the work performed by other GIS Technicians, serves as a technical resource to lower level technicians and may provide work guidance and direction. LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method or transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL EXPECTATIONS:
Physical Class II- Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
