The GIS Officer will play a key role in providing mapping services, spatial data organisation and technical support. Working closely with both internal teams and clients, this role will be integral in optimising GIS workflows within the company and meeting client expectations by ensuring spatial elements are reliable and accessible.
The GIS Officer will primarily support internal teams who are undertaking risk assessments, due diligence, environmental impact management and reporting, and government approval applications. This role will also provide GIS services to clients through all stages of project implementation.
1. Project Execution:
Complete projects and tasks as directed by the GIS Manager, ensuring quality and timely delivery of services.
2. Map Production:
Produce accurate cartographic outputs with strong attention to detail.
Present information effectively to cater to a broad audience.
Consistently adhere to company mapping standards.
3. Spatial Data Organisation:
Routinely maintain spatial data folders and geodatabases in an organised manner.
Ensure accuracy and consistency across spatial datasets content, naming conventions and storage.
Undertake spatial data quality control and reconciliation, collation and standardisation.
Georeferencing and digitising when spatial datasets are unavailable.
Audit client spatial datasets and provide constructive feedback and/or corrections.
Adhere to government spatial data standards and guidelines where applicable.
4. Data Analysis:
Undertake database queries and analyses to effectively identify and quantify environmental constraints, impacts and risks associated with mining and exploration operations.
Query spatial data and context for effective mine planning, field data collection and site surveys.
Produce reliable and compliant outputs for government reporting obligations such as AER and MRF.
Utilise GIS analyses to verify client compliance with regulatory approvals, obligations and commitments and identify potential non-compliance promptly.
5. Client Engagement:
In-house technical support and GIS training.
Serve as a point of contact for GIS queries, engaging with both clients and internal teams.
Build and maintain positive relationships.
Collaborate with clients and colleagues to find optimal solutions to spatial data problems.
Assist clients and internal teams with data collection.
Degree or postgraduate qualification in GIS, spatial science or a related field.
Strong competency with ArcGIS Pro and QGIS
Minimum 2 years' experience with ArcGIS Pro and QGIS
Demonstrated experience in producing high quality cartographic outputs
Ability to effectively manage a number of competing priorities simultaneously and carry out non-routine tasks independently.
Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable:
Experience in the mining and resource sector, with a strong understanding of mining activities, approvals and reporting requirements
Skills in coding with Python
Experience with developing and managing AGOL and Field Maps
Experience with LiDAR processing
Other Information:
This role may require travel to remote sites across Western Australia and the ability to work in various environmental conditions.
