We are looking for a motivated and talented Remote Sensing Data Scientist to help us develop, deploy and maintain our geospatial services in the cloud, and to apply their experience and knowledge for social & environmental impact.

By doing so we help impact makers on the ground to make more informed decisions, improve operational efficiency, create data-driven transparency and unlock new revenue sources at scale. 

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

We are looking for a remote sensing data scientist who will help our team in spatial modeling and monitoring of vegetation across our portfolio. In particular, you will research, develop and apply cutting-edge models, algorithms and techniques to analyze earth observation data to assess and predict vegetation patterns and dynamics. You will have the chance to work both on new application developments as well as advancing our existing work on illegal logging detection, afforestation monitoring, carbon estimations as well as biodiversity identification working for clients such as Amnesty International, Ecosia, Rabobank and many leading conservation and and knowledge organisations.

PROFILE

We are looking for somebody who has:

● +2 years of vegetation remote sensing experience preferably within forestry and/or agroforestry systems

● We have a strong preference for candidates with experience in the use of radar data 

● Having experience in one or more of the following topics is considered a plus: LIDAR, hyperspectral, QGIS, and cloud-based computing platforms

● Strong, applied knowledge of spatial modeling, statistical analysis, and machine learning 

● Programming skills in Python and/or Google Earth Engine (JavaScript) 

● Pragmatic problem solving skills and a constructive mindset, reliable with the ability to work independently and among diverse team members, in a Scrum/Agile environment

● Excellent planning, analytic and coordination skills, fluent in English, Dutch is a plus

● Available as soon as possible (preference for full time, minimum 0,8 FTE) 

● Ability to work collaboratively among a diverse team in a hybrid work environment, working regular days from our office in The Hague Humanity Hub (5 mins from Den Haag Centraal Station)
